EDITORIAL
Dear Readers’ Group Members,
This issue has something of a "catch-up" theme. I’ve up-dated the Index to all 52 previous bulletins and supplements (see pages 5-6). There is an invitation for anybody who wants email copies of the complete set – which I can send out a couple at a time. There are passages from The Poem of the Man-God and the 1945-50 Notebooks clarifying the existence of Limbo. And the Supplement contains a very telling lesson from Jesus which tunes in to the bushfires not far from Melbourne.
But firstly, the new "Why is Mary Crying" audio book is almost completed. During the past months I’ve been assembling almost all the passages from Mary, Mother of the Redeemer and the Church... into this new Audio book of 32 tracks, each 20 to 25 minutes long, in MP3 format. It’s been a very time-consuming process for this old pilgrim, but an absolute gift and a blessing. Its cost is $Aust 18.00 plus postage, the same as the book itself. If you haven’t already done so, let me know if you’d like me to send you a copy. (Please don’t pay in advance, as postage may vary.)
Mary’s life and mission reverberates, time and time again, through all of Maria Valtorta’s writings. Just the list of the 32 track titles (see page 6) highlights the scope of Her role as Mother of Jesus, and Mother of us all.
Here are just a few extracts – from the book and its audio:
(Jesus says to Maria Valtorta:)
"Tears, Maria! What a thing tears are! They had only one degree less in value than my Blood. You are redeemed through the Blood of Jesus, and the tears of Mary... "
(Notebooks 1944, p. 644, "Mary..." book, p. 156; audio track #30)
"...She was united to Me in sorrow, because We were both on the cross: I with My body, She with Her soul..."
(The Poem..., Vol. 1, p. 284, "Mary..." book, p. 41; audio track # 7)
(Mary says:)
"I am the Silent One. The new Eve, I teach you silence. From speech, Seduction entered Eve. From my silence, Redemption entered the world. Learn the virtue of silence from Me. For in external silence, the heart speaks to God and God to the heart. My silence was not the inert silence of a dead soul. It was, rather, a most active spiritual working..."
(Notebooks 1943, p. 532, "Mary..." book, p. 153; audio track #30)
----------
Finally, here is a message from one of our members, who has listened to Track # 19 on the Crucifixion:
"I have been listening, and finding it heart-wrenching. It makes one think about how good God is. But how did Jesus not scream? The pain must have been indescribable. And how did Mary survive this horror heaped on Her Child? One can only withdraw from the shock – it is too much to bear. I will listen to this [again] when I feel far from God – to bring me back to His Heart, full of love for us."
You can listen to this track on the Readers’ Group’s

Bulletins and Supplements – Past Issues
Recently, I’ve been emailing past issues of these bulletins on request. I’m now offering this service to readers for a limited time, if you let me know NOW – so that I can send these out to groups of members, two issues at a time. Here is a message from John Chung, a Seminarian from San Francisco, who now has the complete set:
"The main reasons for wanting these are: of course, for my personal edification; but more importantly as a future priest, some of them may be used in my homilies..."
MARY’S LINK WITH EGYPT
(Father Jorges Fuentes, my Mexican friend, sends this piece of research he has undertaken...)
We know, by means of the main Work of the great mystic Maria Valtorta (The Poem of the Man-God), that the town in which the Sacred Family lived in Egypt, was called MATAREA (See Vol. 1, pp, 187-91, 723 & Vol. 2, p. 581). Also, the "Indice e Carta della Palestina", written by Hans J. Hopfen – that was made specifically from this work and for the service of the same one – indicates… "it was the place of refuge of the Sacred Family during the exile in Egypt. Today,10 kilometers to the North of Cairo, there is a village called MATARIYA" (p.86)...
After consulting some maps of Egypt in the Internet, I found that a place named Al Matariyah [well-known today also as "Ein (or Ain) Shams"], was the old HELIOPOLIS (not to be confused with the modern Heliopolis suburb, that is in the east side of Cairo). Curiously, I found that the old Heliopolis was the town where the first Egyptian priests lived, some 2500 years before Christ was born...
Another aspect in this area is that everything within this region takes the name of the Virgin Mary: there is a Coptic Church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, also a Mosque dedicated to the Virgin Mary, a well and a tree related to Mary and Jesus, and even "bricks of the house of the Sacred Family".
In fact, there is a famous orthodox coptic church dedicated to the Virgin Mary in Al Matariyah. It is in a zone called Zeitoun in Cairo. But what was most pleasant and astonishing for me to discover, was that in the Holy Week of 1968, the Virgin Mary began to appear publicly, for nearly two years, to thousands of people… right ON THE TOP PART OF THIS CHURCH, where the domes are! These appearances are famous throughout the world, because there are thousands of photos and videos of the luminosities with the form of the Virgin Mary that appeared. In fact all the information is available in the Internet... (See http://www.zeitun-eg.org/ )

And this place is exactly in MATAREA. This site was mentioned by Maria Valtorta (in what she wrote on in January 25th, 1944), as the place where the Sacred Family lived in Egypt; that is, more than 24 years before the appearances of Our Blessed Mother in that same place in 1968. Although the oral tradition kept for centuries this place as one of the many places the Sacred Family visited in their journey, we might now say that the Virgin Mary has confirmed, with her appearances, that this is the place where she lived with Jesus and Joseph, as Valtorta revealed in her writings. And it is interesting, that this little 250 square meters orthodox Church, where the miraculous appearances took place, was constructed by the Copts (orthodox Christians) in 1925.
Finally, Matarea was founded 116 years before Christ was born...
By the way, it was interesting for me to find out, with the Google Earth program, that the distance (in a straight line) between Bethlehem and Al Matariya is 432 kilometers. It must have taken one month or even two, for the Sacred Family to reach Egypt. And the distance between their home (where the Church stands now) and the biggest of the three Pyramids is 24 kilometers. (Valtorta says that the Sacred Family could see one of the Pyramids from their home. (See Vol. 1, p. 187)...
IS THERE A LIMBO?
(As the time is approaching for His Passion and Death, Jesus is asked:)
« You said that some will become glorious at once in Heaven. Is Heaven not closed? Are the just not in Limbo awaiting to enter it? »
And Jesus answers: « It is so. Heaven is closed. And it will be opened only by the Redeemer. But His hour has come. I solemnly tell you that the day of Redemption is already dawning in the east, and it will soon be broad daylight... I solemnly tell you that I am already forcing the gates, as I am already on the top of the mountain of My sacrifice… My sacrifice is already pressing against the gates of Heaven, because it is already active. Remember, that when it is accomplished, the sacred curtains and the celestial gates will be opened... And mankind, who preceded us and was just, will go back to where it was destined, with the First-Born heading it, already a complete whole in body and spirit. And His brothers will be wearing the garment of light, that they will have until their bodies also are called to the jubilation. »
(The Poem..., Vol. 4, p. 770)
----------
(Immediately after His Resurrection, Jesus appears to His Mother, thanking Her for Her prayers...)
« ...They came with Me on the Cross, and to Limbo... They have come with Me to Paradise, preceding - like an angelical voice - the procession of the redeemed led by the Redeemer, so that the angels should be ready to greet the Conqueror, Who was returning to His Kingdom. They have been seen and heard by the Father and by the Spirit, Who smiled at them as if they were the most beautiful flower and the sweetest song born in Paradise. They have been recognized by the Patriarchs and by the new Saints, by the new first citizens of My Jerusalem. And I bring You their thanks, Mother, together with the kisses of their relatives, with their blessings and with that of Joseph, the spouse of Your soul... » (The Poem..., Vol. 5, p. 703)
----------
(Jesus is speaking of virtue, and justice, to His apostles. He says:)
« ...At the end of the world, of the four abodes of the dead, two only will remain: that is, Paradise and Hell. Because Justice, at that time, will only be able to keep and give the two eternal kingdoms to those, who from the tree of free will, chose good fruits or wanted wicked ones. But what a long expectation before a virtuous heathen achieves that reward!… Do You not think so?... Their abode will be Limbo for centuries and centuries, until the end of the world... » (The Poem, Vol. 4, pp. 167-8)
----------
[What Jesus said (above) may seem cruel, for us with our limited understanding of time. But what about those in Limbo for the "centuries" before the Resurrection? In the following passage, Jesus speaks of the three "kingdoms" for souls – other than Heaven – to a woman who is most concerned about her orchards, which she manages without her husband. He says:)
« ...The ideas of this world do not exist there, in none of the three kingdoms. In Hell, hatred and punishment dim minds savagely. In Purgatory, the craving for expiation cancels every other thought. In Limbo, the blissful expectation of the just is not profaned by any sensuality. The Earth is remote, with its miseries; it is instead close with its supernatural needs, the needs of souls, not with the needs of things. The dead who are not damned turn their spirits towards the Earth only out of supernatural love, and they address their prayers to God on behalf of those who are on the Earth, not for any other reason.
(The Poem, Vol. 4, p. 252)
(Jesus is speaking of an ultimate justice for unbaptized and worthy souls, who will be admitted to the eternal joys of Heaven. He says:)
"A great number of the just had been waiting for centuries and millennia for the Redemption, in purifying them from sin, to allow them to come to form part of the Kingdom of God, where only those who have supernatural Life in themselves can enter. An even greater number of men, who have come after Christ, are waiting to enter when their purification from serious voluntary sins is completed, or when Most Perfect Justice opens the Heavens to all who lived and acted with charity and justice - according to the law of conscience - to serve and honor, thereby, the Being who they felt existed, thus forming part of the soul of the Church.
"It is unthinkable that God - Perfect Charity who has created all souls, predestining them to Grace - should exclude from his Kingdom those who, through no fault of their own, have not received Baptism. What sin have they committed?... Are the new-born who die at birth responsible for not being baptized? Can God act cruelly towards all of these, who are not the "church" in the strict sense of the word, but are such, in having received their souls from God, and having died as innocents because they died at birth? Or [can He act cruelly towards] those who have lived as just people through their natural tendency to do good, in order, in that way, to honor the Supreme Good, to whose existence everything in and around them bore witness? No, and a convincing indication - that such is not the case - is the inexorable, very severe judgment of God regarding those who suppress a life - even an embryonic one, or one just born - keeping it from receiving the Sacrament which removes original sin..."

The Valtorta Books (and Booklets)
About 12 years ago a friend lent my wife one of the books of The Poem. I looked at it and asked who she thought would read a volume that size. Then I opened it to see what it was about! Soon afterwards we bought the five volumes, and I still read them every day, just a few pages, and my wife has read them more than once. I think I'm on the fifth time round, and it just seems to get better and better. Part of the proof of its authenticity is that you don't need a university degree to read it, just as Christ was understood by the poor and uneducated.
JIM O'REGAN, Reefton, New Zealand
...I am still recuperating [after a serious accident, with whiplash]. and will be doing so for some time. When the times came that I could not pray, I could always visualize scenes from The Poem, and I know what an amazing help and consolation this can be, in such awful times. Its value is just beyond measure – if only so many people would know, AND believe.
JOSEPHINE LANDSBERG, South Plympton, S.A.
Maria’s writings are the most prized in my collection of dozens of spiritual books. They are so uplifting, and the Holy Spirit enters the soul in such a joyful way – as only He can. DARRELL PARMETER, New Lambton, NSW.
I am 64 years old and have completed 35 years of my priestly ministry... Now I am the professor and spiritual father [here] in Christ Hall Seminary... As a seminarian I was brought up and guided by Father Antony Xavier, who was my rector in the minor seminary. When I learned from him that he had been translating The Poem of the Man-God, I took interest in reading the books. It has changed not only my life, but also many of the priests’ and lay peoples’ lives. Afterwards I became a promoter and proclaimer of this message...
[Before he died] Father Antony had translated only two and a half volumes of The Poem into Tamil language... [Now] I have ample time to translate this book. Moreover there are a few fathers well versed in Italian language, and it is easy to refer to them and do the translation work well... May the merciful Lord Jesus and His Mother Mary give us the grace and strength to spread this good news into the world...
FATHER C. XAVIER, Karumathur, Madurai, South India.
Thank you for sending the Bishop's reflection on Spiritual Communion. I was so touched by his comments on the Our Father and the Supersubstantial Bread - had never heard that before. And just like everything in Maria's work, it connects in the mind and heart and deepens my love for Our Lord.
I just wish I could spend all of my days with this incredible gift of Maria's writings. You mentioned the Notebooks, and while I was reading The Poem I kept going into the Notebooks to read what was given on the days mentioned in The Poem. It made slow going, but it was so very nourishing. And I agree these are incredible formation material. They are so very challenging, but at the same time the heart is moved to want to do what is being asked...
(A later message...) Even though I've been sick, I've been immersed in the beginning of volume one again - it so adds to the sense of quiet and holiness of this time, and the joy and awe and love of Mary and Joseph.
KAREN PATENA, Cleveland OH, USA.
The books and CDs of Maria Valtorta are important to me, and used daily. I thank you for making them available, and like so many readers I hope that Maria will soon be declared a saint. NELL McGIRR, Lennox Head, NSW.
I always read your bulletins and the correspondence with interest. And thanks for including that Tribute to Maria Valtorta in the last one. I have just read her account of how Jesus described Hell in Notebooks*. It is very sobering and quite frightening. Better than a thirty day retreat. If our modern spiritual leaders meditated on that chapter about Hell, a greater concern for souls might result. I often thought of gleaning a book from The Poem about the story of Judas. It too might have an impact on souls and their shepherds.
We have had a street gangster war going on in Calgary for some time, with some young Catholics involved... The teaching of Jesus at the 'Clear Water' has a wonderful section on homicide and types thereof**. There is a private Catholic school in Calgary called after the 'Clear Water' where Jesus spoke in Israel. The school is called "Clear Water Academy." Because when the founding group was meeting to select a name back in 1993, one of them who was reading The Poem suggested 'Clear Water Academy.' Today the school has hundreds of students, many of whom have never heard of Maria Valtorta. But the name stands. PATRICK OWENS. Calgary, Canada
(Ps. After sending Patrick the Readers’ Group’s booklet on Judas, he emailed back as follows:)
I just read quite a bit of the Judas booklet. Very excellent. A real teacher of how to avoid being like him - and of the patience of Jesus with that disciple. I think you have incorporated most of the dialogues between Jesus and Judas in that publication.*
See Notebooks 1945-50, pp. 345-6.** See The Poem..., Vol. 1, pp. 681-6.
Thank you for the ...Paul to the Romans book. I have been reading it regularly – being his year – and getting a better insight to the man himself.

The Quarterly Bulletins
(This time there has been a virtual flood of further positive messages about the bulletins and supplements. Here are just some of them. – Ed.)
Merry Christmas to you and all your workers, and know that your bulletins are so appreciated. It is so nice to be a part of the Maria Valtorta circle. If only the rest of the world would be so interested in her writings, what peace we all would have!
CHRISTINA CASTAGNARO, Quebec City, Canada
Only recently I've come to realise what a spiritual 'shot in the arm' the quarterly bulletins are. They certainly help compensate for my inability to attend the meetings, though I hope it won't be another 5 years or so before I catch up with the group. PETER PHILLIPS, Springvale, Vic.
Thank you for your latest bulletin. I am happy to let you know that I am in receipt of all your mails and I am preserving them for future use. We are renovating the church, and our village feast will be on 8th December. Please pray that everything goes well.
FATHER REDDIMASU BHASKER, India.
I loved "A Tribute to The Poem" by Patrick Owens (Bulletin # 52). It was written with a great sense of humour, which we sometimes lack when we are passionate about something. I have begun to read a backlog [of other articles from another source], and I nod off, as I do not understand them. But I plough through, for the "pearls" I discover here and there. E.g.:
"There are enough resources in the world for all man’s needs, but not enough for all his greed.
– Mahatma Gandhi."
EVA RICHTER, Northam, W.A.
The Poem should be in the display cases of every library in the country, if not the world. It should be promoted in Churches and should be in the Catholic High School curriculum... The Poem is so powerful. Remember when Jesus said " What is hidden in the darkness will be pronounced from the highest rooftops!"...
JIM DELUCA, Parma, Cleveland OH, USA.
Thank you for all those wonderful bulletins and supplements during 2008. I feel very privileged to be part of the Maria Valtorta Readers’ Group, which is going from strength to strength... I joined in the Novena (in October) for Maria’s Beatification. My daughter has her birthday on 12th October – so it’s a date I’ll always remember...
SHANE MOORE, Ashgrove, Qld.
[NB. The 50th anniversary of Maria’s death (and the 19th anniversary of my conversion back to the Church) is on 12th October 2011. – Ed.]
[The latest bulletin] makes great reading as usual, and it is good to hear that so many people are benefiting from The Poem and Maria’s other writings. I keep reading and re-reading my copies of The Poem. I gave a complete set to a friend here, and she says she now needs no other readings. She too keeps re-reading these books... I must also start re-reading the Notebooks – I’ve neglected them recently. VIOLET FRANCIS, Plymouth, England
Praying the Rosary - A Small World
(This is a letter received by Rosemary Campbell, a member in Australia - from Jean, her friend in Scotland, to whom she had sent this pocket-booklet Rosary.)
Thank you for the lovely little Rosary pocket-book which I treasure. It is a very different and quite refreshing way to pray the Rosary. I was quite amazed by it because – although I had heard of Maria Valtorta – I had not heard of this booklet.
A long time ago I was recommended to read The Poem – I received volumes 1 & 2 as birthday and Christmas gifts from my son. (I believe the volume [#5] containing the Passion is superb.) I have to admit not having finished reading them, but you have spurred me on, and I will complete the task.
(A little later, I received an order from Patricia Kennedy, a friend of Jean’s in Scotland, who wanted some of these little Rosary pocket-books and some Rosary CDs. I mentioned Jean’s letter to Patricia, and she replied:)
...It is a very small world, as Jean is in my prayer group. She is responsible for this order, as she used the meditations last weekend...
Maria Valtorta Readers’ Group
This group is a non-profit organisation, which retails publications of Maria Valtorta’s writings, and offers other supporting materials, to its members and to other interested persons. Bulletins are sent to members every 3 months. A subscription of $10.00 per year (a little extra if mailed overseas, and no charge for priests and religious) is requested. (E-mail copies of the bulletins and supplements, convenient for Valtorta readers outside Australia, are now free.) A Catalogue of books and other items is available on request.
The writings of Maria Valtorta are considered by many to be among the most wonderful gifts given by Jesus to His followers and would-be followers in the twentieth century. The Readers’ Group has much material available which supports their authenticity as Private Revelation. If you receive just a fraction of the knowledge, understanding and inspiration from Maria’s revelations on the lives of Jesus and Mary, as testified by our readers, you will be very blessed. May God inspire us all, in our journeys to holiness.
